Someone here in Christchurch made one for detecting earthquakes a few years back. I think he just used accelerometers to give measurement of all three axis and you're only looking for 1-2G forces. For…

This was meant to be a suggestion For the element 14 presents "you tube" but i will say i did find some Arduino modules for the senors the question would be how sensitive they were.
