That's the thing, there isn't one nearby and I am kicking around the idea of developing one. I know what I am interested in however I'd like to appeal to a wide enough audience.

A good place to start is with what you yourself are interested in. Tool the space for that application and then add as you find demand. Most people will not loose interest if they know you are working on setting things up. If you aren't already familiar with some of the more sophisticated tools it will be important for you to come up to speed on them so you can teach others and protect them and the tools from damage. If you have a target group of people you might put out a survey to see what the local interests are.
