Spectral Microscope Blog 2.

Hi all,

I did warn you this would be a slowly evolving project.

After seeing the comments from @Douglas Wong  I did some research and  web searches for a more spectrally pure source.

While I appreciate the need for such a source for laboratory spectral information, I realized that most of the techniques I want to share are just as easily shown using the LED source.

So I went to the Adafruit website and ordered the new Neopixel Jewel and a 12 and 16 LED Neopixel Ring.

The Jewel should give me plenty of light intensity for transparency measurements and the Rings should do the same for surface reflectance measurements.

And yes, I was going to add some photo's, but I found the camera had been left on, so the battery is charging and I should have some pictures and design sketches for you on the next update.

That is all for now.

    Hi Mark,

Yes, I read your post with interest and I am really counting on them being bright.

The big problem with microscopes is that you lose brightness with magnification.  So at 10X, you have 1/10 the light, at 100x you have 1/100 of the light, so depending upon what I will be looking at, over brightness is a good thing.  image

Plus, I plan to take the spectrum through some very specific increments to see if I can measure some ancillary effects in the spectral region.

I can always use filters if I need to really cut the brightness, but as I said, I do not think it will be a big problem, though I could be wrong. image

You'll find the NeoPixels extremely bright.

I had them on 3v3 at one stage, and thought they were good then.
