The Lab: As The World Tuns

imageAs The World Turns, Things don't stand still, well, I had a forward facing server with a public IP, for well over more than a few decades. About 2 weeks ago I got nailed, So I had to put the server on an Internal class C address (192.168.xx.xx). I was going to use one of my Pies for a Proxy Server, with My Public address with a virtual private address on the same LAN cable It will look something

like this when Im done, so for now, I have a lot work on my plate, I have not forgotten about the build for the Shift It, Move it blogs. I will eventually get to it but it will be a while as I cant find my Pie3 for the Proxy Server, So I will be using my Beagle board 1 witch does not have enough any USB-3.0 slots for the HD, or the second network adapter. So I will have to upgrade it to the Pie when I turns up. At the moment our Sites are Dark.~~ Cris H. phoenixcomm.net, phoenixaerospace.us, smarthab.us and others. :(

Sorry to hear that. Edge protection is vital.

Backup, Backup, Backup with regularly properly tested recovery procedures is one of my mottos!

One of my systems died and with today's multichannel PCI-e channel storage (in disbelief) I was able to recover 110+GBytes and be back up online within 10 minutes.

Damned amazing. - However if it can be recovered that quickly imagine how fast it can be trashed!

    Cheers to all!

I use Acronis CyberProtect which AFAIK is not for linux. Interestingly I was once a proponent of UPS on workstations but have had far more reliability without them on workstations. One issue is periodic expensive battery replacement & being perpetually hassled by the vendor to upgrade the hardware citing that the old hardware is unreliable. Undersizing them is also an issue. IMHO you need to have at least twice the calculated capacity to cater a subsequent outage if the battery has already been drained by outage. (However it doesn't cater for an outage after a battery drain test!).
