Why does it matter?!

Most of my work is in aviation and avionics where wifi is plage along with 'on the go' usb ports on routers so almost 99% is WIRED, and wifi turned off! This type of paranoia extends in my SmartHab project. We don't want my house security to be snooped or hacked! So in the long run matter does not mater. It's a hole you can't close! Wifi is the hole you can't close the door once you open it. Like a wifi printer on you desk, are you that lazy that you can't run a usb cable 3 feet? ~~ Cris H

Joy I just installed a new (to me) Wi-Fi capable printer last night - and asked myself a similar question.  Why would I choose the slower connection?  Besides, I have a PLETHORA of USB cables.     I was quite disappointed when I got new "cable" for the TV.  I have a Cat5 drop right behind the TV, but the cable box only does Wi-Fi.  I had to pull my range extender from the garage into the house to get a strong enough signal for the box to work reliably.  Again... 3 foot of cable could have resolved that issue.
It's hard to beat the dependability of wired.  It's just a PITA to install. Joy

kmikemoo New Builds are very easy most of the time. Post Builds are FPITA. In my office I do something that saves my but! I use PVC pipe it very cheap! I use 1.5" pipe but next time i will use 2". The problem comes when you pull wires through the tube, so I cut abut 1" slot in the pipe NEVER cut into the ends or the pipe looses its friction fit. Here is what I did.

    imageimage

    imageimage

Not shown is the Cisco VOIP Router/Switch this is on a shelf which is at a right angle to picture 1. In picture 2 you will notice the slit in the PVC, It does not go to the ends of the pipe as then the interference fit will not work. I don't have glue on any of my joints, just friction. Now this is a big error in the pipe in picture 2  you will not in the corner I used the wrong fitting I used a 'L' instead of a 'swept-L' you can see a 'swept-Y' in picture 1. The other thing that could be changed was that I only used 1.5" PVC I should have used 2" but 1.5 would be fine for down tubes.

Dont be put off by the amount of work. Oh one more thing I did not use a Jack Panel. As you can see the between pictures 1 and 4 the colors match, and that Ids whats in what port. BLUE = NexGen Net, RED/ORANGE = Office Net, Then you have WHITE and TAN one is for the VOIP phone system  and I think one is a spare. Oh yes I have to clean use the rats nest in picture 1 and get the wire inside the tube in picture 2 but other things keep popping up.

BTW  kmikemoo  "PLETHORA of USB cables" thats not even close. I have 3 monitors (1 HDMI + TV) the rest are DVI, 2 network cables A Cisco VOIP with cable, USB Keyboard Dell, and a Trackman Mouse. Video CAM, Barcode scanner, My TARDIS USB hub, And Lastly my computer Tall case ~~ Cris
