New heat shrink solder connectors

I saw these on a new discount website (in Canada) and thought I’d try them out, as they are fairly inexpensive. I thought they might be handy when fixing something on the in-law’s boat or golf cart, for example.

The idea is that they solder and shrink and water seal the connection, just using a heat gun.

It seems to do a decent job, and I can see that the solder flowed.

I probably should have used flux on the wires, and I think that center ring is also a crimp ring, so I probably should’ve crimped the connection first. But it’s a strong connection even without it.

I think I’ll be using this next time I need to fix something there. Much easier than soldering and heat shrink sealing separately.

    Correct, it’s “reasonable quality”, probably not “excellent”. A hand made solder joint would be much better. It does say it’s a low temperature solder, yes.

    But all I had to do was twist the wires together a little bit and slide the connector over (I’ll definitely also crimp it next time), so it’s far less effort. 80/20 rule Laughing 

    The little red bands seem to add extra strength and water sealing, which is cool. They shrink tightly into place. Hard to tell exactly how water tight it is though.

    Mostly I think it will be good for those trailer / ATV / golf cart type fixes when I’d rather not be in the weather too long!

    Ps, I’m guessing it would be extra handy for field fixes when all you need is a cigarette lighter.
