Hello all!
I just received a nice TI Wireless Bluetooth Digital Multimeter to try out, courtesy of Texas Instruments and Element14 - very cool!
This is what was in the box (so hey, this is also, sort of, an unboxing blog post!).
It came with a small bit of paperwork on how to use it...
Here's a closer picture of the unit. I've combined two pictures, back and front, so you can see what it looks like:
As with any multimeter, it still needs a couple of test leads connected to it - in this case the leads connect to the ends. On the TI official pictures they use a very short straight connector on one end, leaving only the need for one wired test lead to deal with. In my case I'll just borrow some leads from my existing multimeters, as the unit didn't come with any.
There are a few very cool features to this device, one that I really enjoy already is that it doesn't take up much space! Compare to my standard multimeter:
It's only slightly bigger than a regular pen!
You might have already noticed that black battery holder on the top - that's for an AAA-sized battery, to give you another indication of how small this unit is.
The other cool feature I will soon be enjoying is that it connects to a smart-phone via Bluetooth. As I'm an app developer by day, this part really intrigues me.
As you also may have noticed, there is no case around this device. As it is, it's what they call a "reference design", which I understand is something really cool they build to show off what their chips and parts can be used for, but it's not a fully tested/approved final product. So I'll be sure to follow their safety guidelines, which I believe means I'm not allowed to lick any of the contacts while testing high voltages. Bummer.
That's all I have to report for now, as that AAA-size battery requires a special 3.7v lithium battery (10440), which I don't yet have.
I ordered some online and if all goes well they should be here in time for some testing next weekend!
