I decided that for my Holiday Special 20 shopping cart that I would get myself an RPi 400 kit since it was in stock at Newark and cost an even $100
. A great belated Christmas present!
Raspberry Pi - Pi400 - All in One Raspberry Pi, Keyboard and Mouse Computer
The package arrived Wednesday - thanks Tariq and Element14!
The kit includes the RPi 400, a power adapter, RPi mouse, SD card and micro HDMI to HDMI cable.
Here's the setup as I'm installing the OS updates.
One thing that I noticed right away is that the micro HDMI connector is not very secure (i.e. the cable pulls out easily). It probably doesn't help that the cable provided is pretty beefy (inflexible). Funny that I don't have that problem on my other RPi 4's (it's possible they are using a different connector since this is a new PCB layout). I'll have to try a different cable, hopefully it is not the board connector. The secondary port connector is somewhat better than the primary. I'm not sure if the ports are configurable (swappable).
The feature that I like the best is having a power button (the F10 key).
I've read that the somewhat higher clock speed (1.8GHz) and lower processor temp (due to a large heat spreader) contribute to a much improved browser experience and it does feel like I'm on a real computer now
.
Other than the HDMI connector issue, I'm pretty happy with it. I'll probably switch to a wireless mouse.
I think my next project is to clean and reorganize my desktops. When I took the picture I realized what a mess that I have...
