Community Update - Jive 9 Upgrade

Good afternoon, element14 community members!

 

This Friday, September 22nd at 5:00PM CDT (11:00PM BST) we'll be upgrading the community platform to Jive 9. Woohoo!

 

What to Expect:

  • The maintenance/downtime is expected to last approximately 4-5 hours. The community will be inaccessible during this time.
  • There may be intermittent outages up until Noon CDT on Saturday.
  • Once the maintenance is complete, we'll be posting platform upgrade notes and changes courtesy of .

 

What's Next:

Myself and several other members of the element14 community and development team will be on Friday night/Saturday morning to ensure that everything deployed correctly. This is a (relatively) simpler upgrade than those in the past, since we'll be doing a direct version upgrade (From Jive 8 -> Jive 9) instead of skipping one. Additionally, the update has been successfully deployed on our staging environment for a few weeks now, and everything appears to be stable. However, part of the maintenance period does involve doing a complete back-up to the site, so there should be no fear that anything will be lost. Absolute worse case scenario, everything is on fire we can safely revert back to Jive 8.

 

What's Next Next:

After the Jive 9 upgrade is complete, expect us to continue to make improvements and fixes in the future. Some of the things on this list include:

  • Further updates to the navigation/user interface to improve the look and feel to the site.
  • A full audit of all current groups and spaces.
  • Additional bug fixes/improvements.
  • ... And more.

 

There is not a fixed time line to these things, and we'll continue to update you once more information is available. As always, if you have any questions/feedback/concerns please let us know.

  • As said, the site may be up/down throughout Saturday and possibly the weekend, so we'd ask our members to generally just avoid the site this weekend. We'll post an announcement when the upgrade has been successfully completed and we're 100% done.

     

    Also, we know we can count on you to notify us if you see issues in the week immediately following. We will do a special patch/fix release if necessary to resolve issues quickly.

     

    We've had the new version running for several months in our pre-production environments and it's working very well. Those of you who've been members/on the site through some of our previous upgrades will be happy to know that this one involves a lot fewer code changes "under the hood" - as Megan mentioned we're only going up one version - but we've still put in a ton of improvements and fixes and are looking forward to getting those live.

    Is it then possible also inserting "general" attached files?

    Sometimes i like inserting text files, or e.g. in the Eagle forum some component

    library files or also for this Eagle some script files - all compressed in a .zip file.

    Or equal, e.g. driver files (source codes for µC's), but all for helping users in electronics as well. 

    Currently, for me it is just possible inserting images or video files.

     

    Sometimes this menu was shown in doubled entries (double so long as this menu).

    If i like to quote some posts, the window form is very strikt.
    The quote line has a complete line in the editors window and even i can't move this line between the lines of my own quotes.

     

    I'm very curious about the new platform.
