We have made a change to the way that you can apply to a RoadTest. When applying, you will no longer be able to freely enter your:
- Name
- Address and
- Contact details
And instead will need to update your user profile to apply this information.
As you apply for a RoadTest, you will be prompted to update your profile.
You will be shown what your current user profile details are, and which user profile fields may need to be changed or updated, and give you the opportunity to go to your user profile and update them.
Should you need to go to your profile, when you save your updated details, it will take you back to the entry form for the RoadTest.
If your profile is not fully completed for all of the required information, you will not be able to clear away that popup or apply until those details are submitted.
(note the enroll button is disabled because my profile is not completed)
Once you have completed your profile with the required fields, and you go back to the entry form, all of your personal detail fields will be visible, so that you can see what it is that is being used in the application.
On the form there will be an edit profile option that will allow you to go and edit your profile again, and any changes that you make will be honoured when you come back to the entry form (which will be automatic when you save your profile).
Why are we doing this?
We are doing this for several reasons.
Firstly, we have to be careful with PII (Personally Identifiable Information) due to a number of laws around the world governing how we hold and maintain this information, and these forms cause us a problem with some of those laws in some regions.
Secondly, we have to worry about trade compliance laws around the world that mean we need to keep track of changes to anywhere we send our goods. These two conflicting priorities are difficult to square off, and we have made a decision that the easiest way to stay abreast of these was to make sure we only had one copy of any PII you choose to enter, complete with audit history.
In hopefully simpler terms, we need one 'location of truth' and that is in your profile on the element14 Community, not unnecessarily in any third party tool, and we want to make sure that you have full control over that information.
It also helps our element14 Community team to know that if they need your current, valid address details to be able to send you goodies, prizes and RoadTest kit, that they can go to your user profile and retrieve that.
Please also understand that your personally identifiable information is used in line with our terms of use and privacy policy and that we take your privacy and rights seriously.
I appreciate this might catch a few people by surprise. Everyone in the element14 Community team has been fully briefed on how to help you should you have any problems with this.
