I purchased a Fluke meter which served me well for many years until the liquid crystal became unreadable... I do not remember what I first used it on, some 45 years ago.

My very first electronic tool?  A continuity tester that I built myself out of a 9v battery, resistor and LED.  Needed that to start tracing things in an multimeter I had found in the trash so I could use that to figure out what was wrong with the AM radio I was trying to build...

I don't have any of those anymore after many moves, down sizes, upsizes, downsizes, again.

I Also had one of the cheap yellow DMMs, though mine came with a blue bumper case. I got it for £5 at Maplin in Bournemouth whilst at university to help me work on my Mini. I still have it and it’s still my main meter several batteries later.   As a hobby user it’s mostly good enough for what I’ve used it for, the continuity beep has never worked but maybe it doesn’t even have it?

My first test tool was a multimeter that I used in building my first circuit that I drew on a copper clad board with resist ink and etched. The meter and the circuit etching kit came from RadioShack. The design came from Popular Electronics and whaddya know ...IT WORKED!!!

I got this RadioShack Micronta 22-204C multimeter when I was high school a little over 50 years ago.  It's seen a lot of use, but still works today.  I guess I keep as a conversation piece to show the kids what we had way back then.

Now that I'm retired, I can afford nicer toys such as my current bench mutlimeter.

The first instrument I used was this multimeter that belonged to the father of a school friend who, when needed, lent it to me. A truly exceptional and very robust instrument but, for my student pockets, too expensive. Those were the days when I spent my spare time building timers with NE555, FM transmitters with 2N2222, and hexfet audio amplifiers ... Good times !!

Many years ago I bought this very cheap but really reliable analog multimeter and I still use it today and, finally, the classic yellow digital multimeter that is now found in every bazaar and which is very useful for measurements ... on the battlefield!

Now I have only one dream, a digital oscilloscope to visualize what happens in the many electronic circuits and cards with which I am spending a lot of time of my day in these sad times of Covid that have forced us to stay indoors for almost a year.

This was the first multimeter

I have this meter still . i was a student  (17 ) and better quality meters where to expended.

I use this meter for many years with my electronic studies.

I make a lot a different project, today i making RC controllers and scale models with remote electronics

It's been about 40 years but I believe it was a Tripplet 310 VOM that my dad gave me.

It was small enough to fit into the briefcase toolbox of XLite tools that he also gave me.

I used that when I build my first Heathkit which I think was an alarm clock.

Unfortunately it was stolen but I just recently replaced it with a brand new model from Newark. I think I'll buy another and give it to my son.

My first piece of test equipment was a 1ma meter with two D-batteries that I cobbled together when I was in elementary school.  I used it to understand Ohm's law.  Later my grandfather gave me the multimeter he constructed as part of an NRI course he took.  I no longer have either.

My first measurement tool is this voltmeter which was given to me by my grandfather. He wanted to give me an interest in engineering. It worked and amongst other things he showed me, he elicited an interest in physics and engineering which is why I became an electronics engineer and I build Steampunk robots for events. As you can see, I kept it as it gave me fond memories of him. I still have it and when I dress in Steampunk clothing, I have it pinned to my waistcoat.
