Do You Know Enough About Polymer Capacitors to Use Them on the Job?
I don't know enough to use them in demanding applications. I presume I could use them in generic non critical applications which is also where I use MLC caps.
I've used them in switching supplies and other similar applications where you need very low ESR and high capacitance.
Much nicer than Tantalum (and don't burst into flames) but generally lower ESR and cost.
Used many in // in a 3.3V 20A supply - much cheaper than adequate values of ceramics.
I keep a stock of various values like this Farnell 2614089 - radial leaded because the SM ones are a pain to solder.
MLCC have lower ESR but so what if you can't get them
(Although I do wonder if the Polymer suppliers can take the strain of a mass switchover.)
