Your base OS for development or your favourite Workbench OS!

i recently had a good long argument on using Windows or Linux Os for development. I am a serious Windows 10 fanboy. So I just wanted to know how many use Linux, Windows 10 and MacOS.

I know these OS's are un-comparable but I just want to show my friends the voting down by real engineers of this community!

All those voting I would also love to hear why you love the OS and how it differs itself from others.

I continue to use my Windows 7 Pro OS. I was never a fan of the later versions of Windows and I use too many programs that I could not find availables for Linux.

If you're a professional then you should be capable and comfortable with both Windows and Linux. By all means have a preference for one or the other, but don't make the mistake of thinking anyone else…

others: windows and linux for boards that can run an OS. latest versions if I can. RTOSes for microcontrollers. FreeRTOS or TI-RTOS.

I have several machines running WIndows7, one running Windows10 but I haven't switched it on for a month or more.

I avoid Linux because several of the tools I use all the time are not supported or properly supported.

    I really don't want to use 2 systems but I dislike Win10 - so that's why I've stuck with WIn7.

If Solidworks, Keill MDK, Aldec Active-HDL and EasyPC were available on Linux it would be different. But I've got 17years worth of stuff locked into those tools image

The line of least disruption will be to swap to Win10 image - but I'll be kicking and screaming all the way !

You are most probably frustrated with the Windows 10 Updates right!

I had issues with the updates the first years W10 was released. On my own PC and computers of several family members.

They were typically related to sound drivers and Access/logon issues for one of the user accounts.

For a year now things have smoothened out and we don't have these issues anymore after the updates.

    You bet:

How can they do this ?

    https://www.tomsguide.com/news/windows-10-update-causes-blue-screen-of-death-what-to-do

I want complete control of the code running on my computer, and the ability to revert to previous state after any "update" that I do choose to permit.

Yeah its true when you want to have changes in the kernal level codes LINUX can only help just because its open source!

And about the reverting state after update is available on Windows 10.

I started using Windows back in DEC 2015 from then i have very rarely switched to Linux!

Yeah did have many BSOD! And when I switched to preview editions I came across GSOD!

But learned a lot from mistakes!

Today when do you see a BSOD -> While installing a improper Driver OR when system suddenly gets a huge load while installing drivers OR when installing two hardware with same drivers sometimes cause inflicts between driver registration and the system crashes BSOD!
