Why green energy sources Still on hold?

Continuing this poll : Most underrated technology/thing till date ?  If you haven't voted there, kindly vote and comment on that poll and this as well, your comments will enlighten us.

 

Many in comments agreed on - Big giants already have patents of the technology of future and waiting for right time to implement at large scale with full force. Now, question rises is when is the "RIGHT TIME"?

  • It is my belief that governments and utility giants are holding it back so they can make money. There are ways for them to make money on green energy. But the profits will not be anywhere near what they are making now on fossil fuels. What is stopping us from moving away from fossil fuels? Greed.

     

    Think about it. A fuel that is clean can power the US without the need for oil. There are people in control who would rather see the earth burn rather than stop using oil.  Sadly we are heald back due to this.

    I don't agree at all.

    Already huge numbers of people are employed in non fossil fuel energy businesses.

    In the UK we have an energy storage facility which is based on liquid air as the storage medium. It can store 5Mw but they are planning a 50MW plant.

    This technology uses conventional engineering so offers work/business to traditional electrical engineering companies. They can happily earn money from it.

    It's just an example.

     

    Over the next 20 years I reckon we'll see a massive (and I mean massive) expansion in what I'll call climate management technology - it's blindingly obvious that we can't get to zero CO2 emissions by 2030, but likely that we should - only technology that uses zero carbon energy to make synthetic fuel, and other carbon based materials, from atmospheric CO2 can do the job. (by actually sucking the CO2 out of the atmosphere).

     

    One thing that might help is a bi-directional carbon tax - $100/ton, you pay if you make CO2, you get paid if use CO2 from the air.

     

    Oil company bosses aren't demons form outer space - they are just normal people with kids and families - most people want to the right thing - them too.
