As much as institutions try their darnedest to promote more women in engineering fields, there are deeper problems that keeps them out. One, women are not often exposed to engineering as a career option…

I wanted to answer Yes and No to this question. I was a lecturer for 35 years in engineering (or Electronics as I like to call it) and myself, all my colleagues and my University had no problem with female…

I think that men and women have equal opportunities to pursue an engineering career. However, parents, kindergarten and elementary school play a crucial role in motivating them to do so. If you hide something…

    Christopher,

I have made Man Cakes (Some people called them fairy cakes). Some chocolate flavoured, some just plain, all for a social activity. Several times in fact. Disappointingly not that many were eaten, not even by men - not sure why. I didn't mind too much as I took them home and ate the lot - hence the need for XXL T-shirts. It seems that not that many men actually eat much cake - poor souls. Todays cake was an iced spiced bun - I really wanted just a plain iced bun but not many places sell them now.

    Christopher,

I wonder why I didn't know that. I wonder if I'll get some cake?

    Shabaz,

We would then have to have a Man's Day with an afternoon off, plus ?  I would have liked a cake!

A place where I worked had an office in China, and by coincidence I was there during an International Women's Day and noticed all the female employees received flowers on their desk, and the afternoon off. Really thoughtful of the firm I though.. at least some step to encourage a nicer workplace!

    Quote today from Eva Håkansson

"It was never my intent to be a role model, or to inspire other people, but I have come to realize that you can’t be what you can’t see. To raise strong girls that believe they can become anything they want, we have to showcase strong, successful women."

    Rick,

You need to decide what sort of activity suits you. I started with the Project14 competitions as I could make up my own ideas and do something not too complicated and not too expensive either. Plus I like robots so I can nearly always squeeze a robot into Project14 somewhere.

I also did some of the Essentials Modules as I wanted to do some online learning.

    Thanks!

Any idea where I should start? There's so much info on here I've kinda got the "deer in the headlights" thing going on. And I want to do it all!
