What inspires you to make?

There are all kinds of reasons why you cannot get around to making, but what conditions or events or motivators inspire you put time and effort into making?

Lots of things... At this point in my life I can do what I want. I enjoy learning and doing things with and for the grandkids. And copied from your very good list the following: I see something that looks…

I like the feeling of continually thinking about solving a certain problem. Especially if the problem is outside my comfort zone, in an area that I do not master and if it also has a fixed deadline to…

A lot of the selections were close, but none entirely fit.  I 'make' things to make me happy.  I have an idea, or I think about something that I have designed in the past, and I either want to make it better, faster or cheaper.  I really enjoy designing something that uniquely, efficiently and simply achieves the desired goals.  I also enjoy building things that will spark interests in my grandchildren.  My grandchildren love my robots and every time that they visit, they love to play with them.  I recently got them some fun robots, but they have been a little problematical (too fragile, need a bluetooth enabled device), so I am planning on building some more robust ones with simpler controls.

I haven't had much success with store-bought robots either.

The kids these days have much higher expectations of their robots.

They actually loved the robot.  I had hoped I would be able to develop some simple joystick controllers, but I had so much trouble with getting another bluetooth controller to pair with the robot.  Then after a while the robots would no longer pair with the pad that they were using.  Then a simple drop and the servo would strip out the gears.  I had to replace all of the servos with metal geared ones to keep them from stripping.

I want to build them something that will work well and can be simply controlled. Something that can take a bit of rough handling and not fall to pieces.
