    Ok, I've got a question about the capibilities of Arduino.  I'm in the planning stage to build a USB racing steering wheel controller.  It requires precision and reactive inputs & outputs to a control feedback system.  My concern about Arduino being used as the controller came in after watching how servo motors react to the output from the Arduino after the input data from a POT is taken.  There seems to be a very small delay be the change in data from the POT and the response by the servo motor.  If I use Arduino as a controller can I expect this type of delay or is this an issue with the servo motor response?

    If you really really need fast response times, you should look into programming an atmega in C directly using an ICSP (In circuit serial programmer).  An atmel programmed in C can swith outputs much faster than an arduino due to the nature of the simplified arduino language.  Alternatively, you can try implementing C code directly on an arduino using this tutorial: http://arduino.cc/en/Hacking/Programmer

    @Neokinetic: The example you saw on YouTube has a 15 millisecond delay every loop. Even so it seems pretty fast. I'l quite sure you are mainly seeing the Servo response time. Servo specs will tell you the time for a specific motion.

     

    Without the delay Arduino will be checking that pot 1000+ times per second.  I would put the hardware together and work on optimizing the Arduino code before going towards Assembler or direct 'C'.
