Hi Friends,

 

I have been thinking of wireless nodes for a while now and came up with the cheapest ever fully sustained

Features,  wireless node :

 

Features....

---------- 2.4GHz (TransReciever) Radio (nRF24L01+ Radio)

---------------------- 32 Bytes of Payload

---------------------- Upto 2MBps Data Rate (~1.76 over AIR)

---------------------- CRC so Accurate

----------------------  ~100 Meters of Range

----------------------  Can connect upto 6 Motes talking to Base Mote parallely

----------------------  Capable of Tree / Star Topology for Network Forming

----------------------  Low Power [Approx 12mA in Rx Mode and ~20mA]

 

--------- MSP430G2553 MCU

---------------------- 16MHz, 16-Bit, 16KB Flash

---------------------- 2-Timers, and much more ..

Please tell me what do you guys think !!

 

A Simple Scenario:

 

              node2         <=

node1         <=           <=            <=          nRF24<--->node4 <--->Wifi Interface        <=               <=                 <=     You Controlling through Wifi image

                        node3  <=

 

conceder this scenario, we can gather all the data from nodes or/ give a command to nodes using our WIFI on laptop/Etc. , and let node4 control all the other nodes , hence forming a network !!

    Hi Gurinder,

    I'm trying to find (nRF24L01+ Radio) online, but can't find it at the price range you are mentioning. Whatever I found in online stores is well above the price you are mentioning. Could you please post any links/sites from where I can get this( at low cost ).

    And could you also mention what are the exact parts required. I have a MSP430G2. Is nRF24L01+Radio a single module or do I have to buy them separately?

    If you are ordering the parts from ebay USA , you can get upto 1$ for a module ..

    I have brought these Modules from ebay INDIA (eBay.in) and there you can get 2 Modules for 310INR ~ 5.15$ -- Now the price is ~331INR

    typically the NRF24L01 have a limited range being at 2.5Ghz, they have very optomistic claims in their documents

     

    the NRF905 being a sub Ghz model should give you much better range and of course there is the TI versions based on the CC1100 series radios

    edit after finding the datasheet.

    By chance is that in the 900Mhz range.

     

    I see that you can change them to 433 MHz making them legal here in NZ (why use the 905 name ... what about ">1GHz" )

    I'll have to see who sells them and take them for a spin.

     

     

    Out of interest I pledged for these  http://www.rfdigital.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/rfduino.datasheet.pdf  and they arrived during a busy time, but looking at them they use FCC approved low power bluetooth.

    they look very nice but at what point does too small come into play

     

    I'm all for these devices being available for evaluation and experimentation but when you finally want to build  a real project and include a few different modules all using the same controller, it is a pain to connect them all and which one to go for, there are way to many different connector specifications .

     

    Don't get me wrong, those modules look great, just when you have a bunch to put together, it becomes a problem, I see so many modules with not easy way of mounting them in a case or on a chassis. There is definitely a lack of connector standards that needs to be addressed ?

     

    shields, capes, PI Crusts, you name it, there is no consistent standard on how to connect that SPI device or the I2C device... Wow i can rant

     

    anyway you get my point and as useual we TM members digress from time to time... Ah well image

    Oh, and yes, I too live the fact they support a whole range of frequencies and may well be compatible with the TI sub 1Ghz devices image
