LCD Problem

it looks like you may have a similar issue, also try the software and wiring that is used on the other thread, it may be the same but just in case... I verified that setup myself and it does work

Hi and thank you for replying. I solve my problem but I want to ask you something else. My LCD is working but sometimes it displays thing that i hadn't written and so on. I want to inform you that I didnt yet soldered the LCD. Do you think that this is the problem? TY again.

It could be bad connection on the bread board for sure, especially if you have been plugging in large wire components in the past and are now using smaller wires. another possibility is that some displays have different character sets in them, this would only affect characters outside of the normal a-z, 0-9 though. so if your re-running the same test again and again, with different output sometimes then I would suspect the wiring to be the cause.

btw, what was the cause of your previous problem, you did not say

I think that the pins wasnt in touch well. So i moved it a lot of time and then realized that something appears. But now the problem is; that sometimes it appears different letter instead of the required. So i need to move it a lof of time. Once more, do you think that its because i didnt soldered it or not? And what do you suggest me? You can also show it to me with pictures. Thanks once again for helping me

The photo appears to show that the header is not soldered to the LCD.

This is sure to cause problems.

You definitely need to solder that header onto the LCD. Remove the header from the breadboard before you do. There has to be a good connection between the pad on the LCD board, and the header pin, so soldering it is the best and cheapest choice.

The connection is not made until it soldered.

At the moment its a very poor and intermittant joint between the header pins and the lcd.

The breadboard has contacts that 'grip' the pin and therefore make contact.

If you wish to avoid having to solder there are several alternatives.

There is an LCD shield available that includes some pushbuttons and is designed to go onto the Arduino.

There is also some I2C LCD's and I use these. http://yourduino.com/sunshop2/index.php?l=product_detail&p=331

A 4 pin lead is all you need to connect since they have a small extra board that converts the I2c data to the display.

Sadly element14 don't carry them and it would be very useful to their range.
