beginner info needed where to start

hey there I'm the new guy I'm trying to find out information on where I should go to start programmingI know Raspberry Pi and are Arduino is where people tend to go when they start I have no experience with either of them don't wanna know which would be the best to play around with that the lowest budget or if there's another platform are set up that would be better suited for a beginner to learn an add on to later I would greatly appreciate any input and if there's kids here please link me to the kids so I can see them as well I would like to get something soon.

 

I do you like tronic repairs and I'm not for me too I'm putting things together or by any means so when it comes to technical difficulty of the project I'm not concerned about that it's a programming platform and E ease of use that concerns me the most for a beginner.

    Either the Raspberry Pi or Arduino are great to start with. The Raspberry Pi is great for learning linux and programming. With the GPIO you are able to control different electronics through programming. There are also many rewarding electronics it can be made into. The Arduino is great for programming and controlling lots of different things. It is very useful for robotics and motors, as well for led lights. You would be happy with either one, they are around the same cost so it will depend on which you feel you should try.

    Well that just makes me want both of them dale, haha ill have to do more digging I guess and see projects others have done.  You have any favorites?

    Well, I think my answer will make your decision harder. With the Rpi I have made media players, retro game machines and a beowulf cluster. With the Arduino I made a few 4x4x4 led cubes (check out youtube), a robotic spider, and a small laser CNC machine. You can do so much with either one, just start with easy projects and it will you want to do more.

    I must say both are great. Also, welcome to the element14 community -- keep coming back, you'll find so much knowledge and a great community.

     

    Personally, I would recommend picking up the C programming language. It's much, much easier than people thing. I would also recommend picking up a microcontroller development board. An Arduino is ideal for this, as you can program it as an Arduino, but you can also program it as an ATmega328P, which is what the heart of the Arduino is.

     

    The reason I recommend learning C is that it is much more powerful, and I personally find it easier to use than the Arduino libraries. That being said, for a beginner, the Arduino lessons on their website are excellent. If you click on my name you'll see a couple of projects I've had published here on element14. The most recent one, the Morse Code project, might be something you could build once you've got the basics under your belt.
