Hi to everyone, i'm XarlyX And I Need Help With A LCD

Hi.

 

I'm new to this comunity, i hope to fit well here.

 

The reason i sing up to this comunity is that:

 

Few weeks ago i unscrewed a Lexmark x3350 printer for salvaging lot of cool stuff,like a 10-pin LCD display, found at the control pannel of the printer.

i took the PCB and disolder the screen carefully. behind the LCD, in the PCB the're wasn't any IC or SMD, only a few resistors so i thank: Could i use it with my Arduino UNO?.

 

I searched in the internet but i havn't found any specs or any class of information, so... Could you help me please? at the moment i only want to know how it works and the pinout for printing at the screen a kind of "Hello World", only that. so Thanks so much for reading my first post

    The numbers we are interested in are likely under the black plastic. Anyway to get in there without hurting the LCD?

    Do you have any picture? Is there any part number or product reference on the pcb of the display?

    Hi Miguel,

     

     

    Sadly there's no serial number on the screen, only a little string of numbers that i even can't see with a zoomed photo, also these numbers are writed backwards and you can figure how i could read it without a good mirror.

    Like i said it has 10 pins and was hooked to a PCB when i got it

    Hi Xarly,

    I have not seen a display that looks like this, but if you want some wild speculation to check out - the ubiquitous Hitachi LCD controller (HD44780) can be connected using 10 pins, so there is a chance this popular controller is buried in there using chip-on-glass or glob top methods. (With only 10 pins it must have a controller chip in it somewhere.)

    Typical signals in such an interface would be:

     

    LCD Pin Connect to
    1 (VSS) GND Arduino pin*
    2 (VDD) + 5v Arduino pin
    3 (contrast) Resistor or potentiometer to GND Arduino pin*
    4 RS Arduino pin 12
    5 R/W Arduino pin 11
    6 Enable Arduino pin 10
    7 (Data 4) Arduino pin 5
    8 (Data 5) Arduino pin 4
    9 (Data 6) Arduino pin 3
    10 (Data 7) Arduino pin 2

     

    You can look up how to connect a typical display to an arduino, but keep in mind this speculation is potentially completely wrong.

    Hi @Michael Wylie,

     

    I think that if i try to separate the LCD from the plastic it will break, the form who appears in the BACK photo is as far i could get.

     

    On the subject of the numbers staring at the back  of the screen i can read correctly the words:

     

    >HIPS< 4-3

     

    And on the front i will try to decipher what does appear writted backwards with a mirror i found on my home

     

    EDIT: Here are the numbers from the front

    AKNA5A2702-10HWV

     

    These numbers was covered by a specie of putty, i removered scratching with a little blade from an multipurpose pliers, but i don't think these numbers are related with the display driver.

    Hi douglas, thanks for the pinout of the HITACHI controller, in a minute i will connect it to my Arduino so... i will tell you later, the "sketch" of the lcd is included on the IDE of Arduino for Windows no?

    Yeah you said it!, that "blob" is like sillicone or a kind of jello  but when i scratched it went out easily.

    And for @Douglas Wong i will try to solder any kind of ribbon cable to enlarge the pins, because the "feet" of the screen are so tiny and i think these won't make contact when i gonna insert on my breadboard to test your pinout

    Bad News, trying to solder any wire to enlarge the pins of the screen, those pins have broken i'm sorry really had wanted to see it running so thanks to all of you

    OK, so the battle was lost but the war continues, use this as a learning task  on soldering and research. I think if you reflect on this you will see you will have learned a few things along the way

     

    next time you should be better prepared, try again to do the soldering on the remaining pins and see if you can do it without more damage, you will get better over time and with practice.
