Hi,

I am a newbie in Arduino and MQTT projects..I want to use Temperature sensor as MQTT client by connecting it with Arduino UNO and Ethernet Shield.

I want to buy the required components.Kindly let me know whether the below are the correct components for this...

Arduino UNO-Are the both same product? If no,which one is the best to buy?

1)https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11021

2)http://www.simplelabs.co.in/content/arduino-uno

Ethernet shield-Are the both same product? If no,which one is the best to buy?

1) http://www.ebay.in/itm/Ethernet-Shield-W5100-for-arduino-UNO-Mega-/141511630995?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

2)https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9026?

Hope I have to  buy RJ45 cable?

One more wire seems to be connected from the Arduino board with computer USB port as per the video "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj6eA8BIvlQ".Not sure what is the use of it..Kindly explain me..

Radhamani, The products you are comparing are essentially the same. The Arduino UNO comes as the genuine item, which tend to be quite expensive, and then there are many clones. The latest version is the…

Now I have got all the components required for a simple Arduino and MQTT project.

To start with Arduino programming,I read in  "Intro to Arduino : Arduino IDE",  that I need to install Arduino Programmer which is the IDE and Arduino driver.

For Arduino programmer,I tried installing Arduino 1.6.0 Windows zip file non-admin install from " Arduino - Software  " .I am facing a problem in this download. After some 30 MB,the download is not proceeding.I also tried installing Arduino 1.6.0 Windows install.Even this is stuck up in some 60MB.I am not seeing any errors while downloading .But the download not proceeding...

Also for Arduino driver,as per "Arduino - Windows" looks like, drivers available only for Windows 7,XP,Vista.

My windows version is 8.1,64 bit.

Could you please suggest how to proceed with the software installations?

I am reasonably certain the windows 7 64 bit driver is OK with Win 8.

I find it best to use the Windows install option rather then the zip version, however if you do use the zip version try running it as am Administrator.

    IDE got installed..

But when trying to install the Arduino UNO device driver, its not working.

I followed the steps given in Section 4 of " Arduino - Windows "

I am able to see Arduino.inf file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\drivers .Eventhough I locate this path in Update drivers for Arduino under "Other devices" in Device Manager, its still throwing error as "Windows could not find driver software for your device".

Is this issue caused because of some security reason in driver? Should I have to follow the link "How Can I Install Hardware with Unsigned Drivers in Windows 8?" to fix this issue?

Whether IDE installation is the problem?

    Radhamani,

when I installed Arduino V1.6 I used the Windows admin install and just let it install the drivers.  I always thought the drivers were installed under the windows 'system' folder.  I think you need to uninstall the software, making sure everything is removed, and do a completely new clean install.  I do not have Windows 8 so I cannot help on that specific system.

It seems to me that if Windows cannot find the driver it is in the wrong place, corrupted, missing or the wrong version.  As peter noted version 1.6 was supposed to have sorted out many of these issues.  The other thing you could try is to plug the Arduino into the USB port and let Windows search for the driver 'on line' if necessary.

This situation (where the Arduino seems to be installed, but is not working) can arise from conflicting drivers available to the operating system. The solution is to entirely remove the installed drivers (and all associated drivers) and reinstall them before your device is plugged in. In the future, this can be avoided by installing all the necessary drivers prior to plugging the device into your computer.

    1. To Open Device Manager, at a command prompt, in the Start Search box, or the Run box, type the command:

      mmc compmgmt.msc
      • If you are logged on as the built-in Administrator account, Device Manager opens.

      • If you are logged on as a user that is a member of the Administrators group, then the User Account Control dialog box appears, and you must click Continue to open Device Manager.

      • If you are logged on as a standard user, a message appears indicating that you cannot make any changes to the devices. Click OK to open Device Manager in read-only mode.

    2. Double-click the Ports (COM & LPT). You should see an open port named "Arduino UNO (COMxx)". If there is no COM & LPT section, look under "Other Devices" for "Unknown Device".  image If you find more than one of these for the Arduino board, come back to this step and uninstall them one at a time. image

    3. Right-click the "Arduino UNO (COmxx)" port or Unknown Device", and then click Uninstall. You can also double-click the device, and then on the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

    4. In the Confirm Device Removal page, select Delete the driver software for this device if you also want to remove the device driver package from the driver store. .

The Delete the driver software for this device option removes the package from the driver store. It does not remove the currently installed driver for any other operational devices that use the same driver. If you remove the driver from the store, and the device is connected to the computer again, Windows must search for a copy of the driver package in the standard search locations, including possibly prompting the user for media. This option is the equivalent of running the command: pnputil -d -f <package.inf>. For more information, see Remove a Driver Package from the Driver Store.

    5. Click OK to complete the uninstall process.

    6. When the uninstall process is complete, unplug the device from the computer.

If you are prompted to restart the computer, the removal is not completed and the device might continue to function until the computer is restarted.

Before you reinstall the Arduino device drivers, try to restart your computer and check the device to determine whether it is functioning properly. If it is not, try reinstalling the Arduino device drivers.

To reinstall the Arduino device drivers

    1. Open Device Manager.

    2. Follow the instructions in the preceding procedure to uninstall the device.

    3. If you are prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

      • Plug in the device and then restart the computer. The device will be detected and reinstalled after Windows restarts.

      • Follow any instructions on-screen to complete installation.

    4. If you are not prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

      • In Device Manager, in the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

      • Follow the instructions on the screen.

    noteNote
Scan for hardware changes will not re-install a Plug and Play device if a driver is already installed on the computer. If the device has not been uninstalled, Scan for hardware changes will not detect the connection of the device as a change. You must uninstall a Plug and Play device for Windows to start an installation when you connect the device again.
