What are some good first projects

tdguy

What I'm looking for are some great first projects and maybe some more advance projects for a beginner who is learning outside of the traditional learning medium.  Just a good beginnings for anybody that is new and needs help in a good direction just to get the experience would be nice.

This might be a good place to get some project ideas for the Arduino. http://tronixstuff.com/tutorials/ I repair dental equipment for a living and I work on pneumatically controlled systems. Wouldn't be…

Maybe you could try making a reaction timer..... where an LED starts a millisecond counter and a switch (that you hit) stops the counter. Try displaying the result on some seven segment LED displays or…

There are lots of good things, often explained, at...

    Arduino Playground - HomePage

You'll want to watch out for things that need too many, too expensive "add ons", or just components. Also, a novice can run into trouble when things clash that work fine in isolation... but that's just a portion of the learning curve to be dealt with... sometime.

There are many online courses which are built around Things You Can Do. Indeed, it is pretty hard to write a course that is NOT example led. Well... one that I would want to read!

The advantage of a "course" is that the author has, we hope, tried to go from step to step, introducing new bits of "the Arduino will do this if you do that" in a logical and constructive sequence.

If you'll forgive me grinding my own axe, I've tried to do just that with...

Course for Arduino Programming: table of contents- (FA1main.htm)

It probably isn't the best one out there... but I did teach for 20 years, 12 of them "officially" teaching computing, and sneaking computers into science lessons for some of the other!

I hope other people will suggest others to you.

I would also commend the Arduino Forum - Index as a place to go. Look at the things other people are doing. Before long, you'll see things that make you say "I want to try THAT!..."
