Arduino as a FTDI chip

The thing is that i have an ESP8266 Wifi Module that can be programmed by an FTDI chip, which i dont have. I was wondering that whether i can use my arduino as a FTDI programmer. This is a picture of my arduino. I know that there are 2 avr microcontrollers on the board. One is used to convert USB signals to Tx Rx signals and the other gets programmed. Can i convert the first to an FTDI??

here you go mate there is a good instructable here on how to do it Arduino Examples #2 Use an Arduino as a FTDI Programmer and as Peter said you can use the arduino as a serial interface because that is all the FTDI does is convert the USB signal to a serial signal (both are serial but different protocols).
