Arduino as a FTDI chip

rishi2628
rishi2628 over 10 years ago

The thing is that i have an ESP8266 Wifi Module that can be programmed by an FTDI chip, which i dont have. I was wondering that whether i can use my arduino as a FTDI programmer. This is a picture of my arduino. I know that there are 2 avr microcontrollers on the board. One is used to convert USB signals to Tx Rx signals and the other gets programmed. Can i convert the first to an FTDI??

There are two Atmel chips on board, one is completly tied up with USB functionality and communicates with the ATMEGA328 using its only serial port (Hardware one) but you can use the software serial library…

here you go mate there is a good instructable here on how to do it Arduino Examples #2 Use an Arduino as a FTDI Programmer and as Peter said you can use the arduino as a serial interface because that is all the FTDI does is convert the USB signal to a serial signal (both are serial but different protocols).
