New a FGPA emulates UNO with extra's

I was out of the country since October and saw this this XLR8 FPGA-Accelerated Arduino Clone Kickstarter is Live | EE Times. After reading the article , they said;

If you have a project that's using an Uno, you can swap in an XLR8 board right out of the box, and it will just work. You won't even know you're actually running your sketch on an FPGA, at least not until you fire up one of the accelerated functions... and then the magic happens.

Interesting so I looked up the https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/814866572/xlr8-arduino-compatible-fpga-based-application-acc

and sad to see the goal may not be reached, Anyone have comments why?

    It makes sense to compare XLR8 to the Papilio DUO, which is US$88.  The DUO has a real ATmega32U4 chip, a Xilinx Spartan-6 LX9, and 512KB of SRAM (there's a more expensive version with 2MB).  It also has 54 I/Os, some of which have an Arduino footprint and the rest set up for Gadget Factory Papilio Wings.  I have a Kickstarter DUO ($75 early bird) and it's a very nice board.  I haven't used the Arduino part.

    I'm not familiar with the Altera MAX10 FPGA that's on XLR8, so I don't know how it compares to a Spartan-6 LX9.  Even if the chips are comparable, I think the DUO's I/Os and SRAM make it a lot more versatile.

    It's really a shame that there are no FPGA boards with pricing anything like RasPi Zero image
