X bee Arduino

Hello

i have a doubts regarding  the Xbee module.

.>What do X-bee modules do? Do they create a wireless serial communication just by configuring them to the arduinos.

eg, i made a simple program for servo control using potentiometer. So if i just attach the 2 X-bee to the two arduinos, will this make it wireless?, will i be able to control the servo wirelessly using potentiometer with the same program.

will i be able to send data wirelessly just by giving a Serial.begin(9600); in the void loop()

The hardware hookup is not to bad using TX/RX pairs. From reading other peoples comments the software configuration was more troublesome. Read carefully and setup mostly according to guide(s). I found  https://learn.adafruit.com/xbee-radios/  to be easy and accurate.

i saw a project in which the person made a wireless hand controlled robotic hand using 5 servos.(similar to what i am trying to achieve)

in that he uses 2 X bees and connects them to the 2 arduinos. Then in the program he just writes Serial.begin(9600);in transmitter, and Serial.read in reciever, and that's it . Rest of the program is just for the servo control. How does this work .

I am still not able to figure out how x-bee is working . is it just creating a serial comm between arduinos , just like between pc and single arduino via USB???

link to that project -How to make a remote controlled Robotic Hand with Arduino - All

    code he has used

To you it is a pipe to send data and receive data. Under the covers the wireless is handled by x-bee firmware. This is like the Internet. We enter a URL and under the covers, translation to first an IP address and later to a physical packet that flows through many like processes until it's arrival at the website. If you want the gory details, there is plenty on Google.

Edit: The serial is a virtual com port. You really do not care so long as the connection works.

so just by connecting X-bee in the way mentioned , will i be able to send data for any device connected to arduino .

using the way that person did??

    he just connected them and wrote serial.begin(9600);

    can i use that??

i am sorry if i am asking too immature questions,

right now i just want it to work , i just want to be able to send data wirelessly just as i do it between my pc and arduino, I am being funded by my college for a project and i just want to know if i should order this so i can develop on it  while i am working on my project. wireless has been a real headache for me.

    Thank you
