Please help suggest a electronic pushbutton swich replacement

So a little background on what I am doing. I have a remote control that I would like to adapt to be switchable by an attiny flashed to arduino. I have both the attin84 and the 85 chips to select from. The remote control utilized a 12volt L1028 battery. The remote uses a surface mount tactile switch on the negative battery terminal.

 

I'm very new and am still learning what im doing. My first thought would be to use a 12v relay with 5 volt coil in place of the switch. But I am not sure that's the best way to go about this. Ultimately I would like to replace that tactile switch with something else that the attiny can trigger.

 

any suggestions on that something else?

    You can drive a BSS138 FET directly from your MCU, but it is a surface mount part. If you want a part with through-hole pins try a 2N7000.

    Since your suggestion I have been looking into transistors to try and wrap my head around them better. Ive only ever used them as part of a pre-written schematic. So im still learning to apply them. Thank you for your suggestion. I think it will be the way to easiest accomplish my goal.
