Realtek RT18189ES WIFI Chip Alternatives

Just curious if anyone knows of a better chip to use then the Realtek RT18189ES WIFI Chip? Need longer range possibly an antenna alternative as well.

    I'm not sure if that's standard Internet type WiFi, but it claims extra long range.

    LoRa is a Low Power WAN (LPWAN) and is completely different from WiFi. LPWANs are designed for battery powered low-bandwidth applications.

     

    I would start with defining the requirements first: bandwidth, range, power requirements etc.

    I didn't even check the price, hehe. I see they start around $25 CAD on eBay, so it's not completely out of reach if you only need a couple. But it's definitely much more than the ESP modules.
