Just curious if anyone knows of a better chip to use then the Realtek RT18189ES WIFI Chip? Need longer range possibly an antenna alternative as well.

Have you tried the ESP8266 type modules? There seem to be a handful of variations that have antenna connections.

Also maybe look at LoraWan (Here's a video I saw recently).
I'm not sure if that's standard Internet type WiFi, but it claims extra long range.

Wesley,
@ntewinkel might be on to something. The ESP8266 class of parts list a power output of 19.5dBm (802.11b) (documentation says that the power amp can be set to 25dBm), where the RTL8189ES (note RTL not RT1) has an output power of 16/17dBm.

LoraWan certainly is interesting but that price tag ouch! might have to be a birthday present lol
Interesting will have to look into that, ya looks like my chip is max 16dBm
LoRa is a Low Power WAN (LPWAN) and is completely different from WiFi. LPWANs are designed for battery powered low-bandwidth applications.
I would start with defining the requirements first: bandwidth, range, power requirements etc.
I didn't even check the price, hehe. I see they start around $25 CAD on eBay, so it's not completely out of reach if you only need a couple. But it's definitely much more than the ESP modules.
