Serial communication between two arduinos

I am working on a project and have an Arduino Duemiloanove keeping track of speed and i need to send that information to the Arduino Mega. Right now i am using a "Serial.print" on the Duemilonave and "Serial.read" on the Mega. im not shure if this is correct. Please help me!

    Hi Coolbots,

     

    You have to make sure that the input line on the Mega is connected to the output line of the Duemiloanove and vice versa.  If you have the connects correct, then make sure you set up both serial channels with the same buad rate and verify that you have the same parity and number of stop bits.

    After that, it should work.  If you can, connect the serial input to your PC to see if you can see the output.  Then you can connect to the Mega and verify that it can read data from the PC.  If both work, you should have communication between the two MCU's.

     

    You can also connect LED's with resisters on both the output pin and on the input pin side.  They should blink simultaneously as the signal is sent from one to the other.  Just another way to verify that the signal goes from one to the other.

    Thank You, for the reply . What I did is, I connected the transmitter to mega adk port pins and i also connected the recvr pins to the same mega adk but different pins just to check whether I get a proper output or not on the serial line . But whenever I tranmitted anything all I got was 00 01 11 10 , while i transmitted just a 0 to check it out. Is it right what I did to check ?

    Have you looked at the data with an oscilloscope?  You might have a grounding problem or noise.  You need to see what the signal looks like at both ends.
