I'm connecting a 2 way valve to an arduino uno R3 (powered from the laptop) and i was wondering will the valves have enough current to open so that the water will stream (6 of them) or I need to connect the arduino to any external power source?

    Arduino UNO pins do not have enough power to drive a water valve, you will need to use in intermediary relay board and a seperate power supply for the valve, can you provide details of the actual parts…

    If the walves does not need so much power, you can use a NPN transistor instead of a bigger relays but should drain a relative low power, else the relay solution is sure the better one.

     

    An intermediate solution (cheaper and smaller) is to use a solid state relays IC (there are good ones able to driver up to 12V and 1-2 A). I have done this in past for some small devices and it worked well in a very reduced space.
