6V DC Motor Battery??

mparmpas122321

Hey guys! I am electrical engineering student and i have a project running. My supervisor told me to control this motor Pololu - 47:1 Metal Gearmotor 25Dx52L mm with 48 CPR Encoder. It needs 6V supply and has a maximum current of 2.2A. What battery should i use with this motor? If i put 4AA batteries, will they be able to give a 2.2A current if needed? I have searched a lot but people say that a battery can theoretically supply whatever current needed but for different time, according to its mAh capacity. Others say that a battery can handle limited current.

Any help?

All good advice given by all I would like to simply add to the mix based on your desire to protect the motor and keep things simple Rechargables typically also can output significantly more current than…

Hi Manos, 4xAA will be fine. As an elec eng student you should just try it - sometimes it's good to experiment. As for the theory, it's related to battery internal resistance. According to the URL, 2.2A…

U can use 5 cell NiMh battery pack or buy 5NiMh cell and connect them in series.... So u will have chargeable battery pack of (5x1.2 = 6 V)... and it ll be low cost too...

    Dear: Manos

There are many batteries you could use. So many I could probably talk about it all day. For that reason I would stick to the basics. If I were you I would use 4 AA batteries partially because they are so common but also because they are cheap. If you want your project to be rechargeable you could use rechargeable AA batteries. Also if you didn't like what I said you could use a 9 volt battery and just use a 3 ohm resistor. Good Luck on your projectimage!
