can any body help me????

hey guys im here new to the family of the element14 and this is my first topic and i need your help with a small project im working on and my project is a motion detector with a GSM message alarm and i really have no idea about how to start this project and the only idea i have is starting with arduino uno and a laser and pir sensor but the problem is i dont know what is the right kit i must use and how to program the arduino to send an alert message from the GSM adapter to my cell phone so please please i need your help....

HI there

Whats the Laser for, the PIR will detect the movement and provide a simple input to any Arduino or Launchpad controller (They typically have an open collector output meaning it can pull a voltage down but not drive it up, a resistor to the + supply fixes that, when movement is detected it pulls the line to 0.

A GSM shield will be required for calling the cell, im not sure in your area but this will possibly involve a monthly fee to connect to the phone system

If the Arduino is going to be near a network connection it could be possible to send an SMS message without needing a GSM adapter, just a cheaper network shield

What is your current skill level, I will provide some links for learning but I don’t want to scare you away so knowing your current skill will help to target you at the right stuff

actually im not very skilled because this is my first experience with the arduino and the main reason is that only a few people in iraq know about the arduino and the opened source micro controllers and this is my first project ever and why im using a laser because i was asked to use one so my idea is to use a red laser and a light sensor and im going to use a GSM just to make a prove of concept and probably in the future i will upgrade my project to a higher level by pairing two motion detectors in a network along with a one alarm system but all i need is to start for now

OK, so like a line crossing sensor, break the beam and send an alarm to a cell phone... hmm let me think on that for a bit
