LED Button push light up

Josephmbrandtii
Josephmbrandtii over 3 years ago

Attempting to make a Cornhole score board with 21 lights that light up at each button push.  At the end of the chain i want it to shut off the lights so there is none.  I am very new to this and have only gotten to the research part.  Any help i can get will be amazing.  Thank you.

Maybe you can use addressable LEDs https://www.makerguides.com/how-to-control-ws2812b-individually-addressable-leds-using-arduino/

Hi, here a suggestion: As I saw you have drawn it from the example from the datasheet. Now this is the complete circuit including the bypass capacitors and one of a possible method to make the…

Is the button to be controlled by a person or is the button controlled automatically by the cornsack/beanbag passing through the hole in the board ?

What sort of lights are you planning on using ? Individual LED's, LED pixel strip, or large light bulbs ?

These three Arduino examples may help you get started:

Learn how to wire and program a pushbutton to control an LED:
    https://docs.arduino.cc/built-in-examples/digital/Button

Debounce on a Pushbutton - Read a pushbutton, filtering noise:
    https://docs.arduino.cc/built-in-examples/digital/Debounce

Learn how to make an LED bar graph - a series of LEDs in a line:
    https://docs.arduino.cc/built-in-examples/display/BarGraph

The number of lights may influence your choice of Arduino as if you are planning on using simple GPIO, then you will need a board with enough digital IO pins for the total number of lights and button(s).

the button is controlled by the person pushing it.  ideally there will be 2 sides with 21 lights each and 2 buttons but if i can figure out how to do 1 then i will be able to do both sides.  just a super rookie.

The Arduino Mega2560 might be worth considering, as it has 54 digital IO pins so 2 sides x21 per side for LEDs and enough spares for buttons.

Remember that each little LED consumes a small amount of power, so when you multiply that small amount by 42 in total it starts to add up. Also you need to be mindful that you don't overload the microcontroller pins or its power supply when driving lots of LEDs at the same time.

Before you know it you will be building button walls like these: Slight smile

Holy crap. That is nuts.  I just need to light up 2 bulbs on each side at once. That is way way past my skill level.
