Arduino UNO R4 WiFi LED Demo

dougw
dougw over 2 years ago

element14 sent me an Arduino UNO R4 WiFi, which features a Renesas RA4M1 MCU. (Arm Cortex M4 48MHz).

This is a major upgrade over the original UNO. It is also a lot of fun to play with since it comes with a 12x8 LED matrix.

This is a quick demo of the LEDs in action...

I think I posted this in the wrong area - I can't edit it. I worked out the graphics with a spreadsheet that shows the graphic as you enter ones in cells and computes the 32 bit hex numbers for the program…

Great! You can also use the online LED matrix editor ledmatrix-editor.arduino.cc/

I didn't measure performance, although I had it scrolling so fast it was just a blur. This LED matrix is more capable than the micro:bit, the spacing also is tighter which makes the graphics more readable…

It also shows how the bits and bytes map onto the LED array...

Arduino UNO R4 looks great. With a 32-bit RA4M1 MCU and a USB-C connector, this could be pretty handy for prototyping.

Nice Doug- the led matrix screen is an interesting add since that feature was previously unique to a MicroBit.

Using the led matrix really tied up MicroBit resources. Did you notice how much it tied up the Arduino R4 ?

Yeah you can see how much it costs if you click here for our online stores  and see Arduino®︎ Uno R4 WiFi for more detail.

Yes, the online tool can create binary data in a .mpj file but rather than take an extra step to extract what I wanted, I just did it all in one spreadsheet.

Thanks for sharing!  I am expecting my package to arrive today and I look forward to checking this out.   I am pretty excited to learn more about the 32-bit RA4M1 MCU, as this might be a great processor for some of my more demanding applications.
