Arduino VENTUNO Q

Arduino have been kind to us today, I have the good fortune of being sent an Arduino VENTUNO Q ahead of our VENTUNO Q RoadTest (which is still open for applications until the 9th of October).

My initial impression's that it's a bit smaller than expected, but like all Arduino products it is well built.

We have plans to explore the functionality of this new bit of kit on the element14 Community alongside those writing a review, so you won't be alone in your explorations when you're selected Slight smile

At present we're exploring what cameras we can connect up to it, support is still in development from Arduino, but will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions, I'll see if I can answer them, but we do have a rather comprehensive FAQ with questions fielded by Arduino engineers here:  ARDUINO VENTUNO Q

I was more complaining about the use of the space and the fact that once you put a shield on it is not visible.

This is great.  Sometimes it can be hard to get the most out of a new product.  When you're dealing with a problem it can feel like you are all alone, so I applaud this. Clap

I've explored this idea in a few different ways, each RoadTest always has an 'escalation contact' via the RoadTest programme leader, we've also tried having a discord room available for people to use, and I'm considering a private forum for people to engage with supplier support directly. Didn't have a lot of uptake on the discord live chat though.

Nice looking board. Glad to see the that the board also comes with power supply and usbc cable.

Yes, I agree with your impression that it is bit smaller than expected. Cause I found the Uno Q also smaller than expected. Also, the PCB thickness is very low. I got nRF54-dk with the package and it was thicker than Uno-Q. It was surprising that a board with processor is thinner than a board with controller. Smiley

Nice early hands on feedback! Really interested to see how the camera integration turns out once support lands

It does when you buy it, at the moment there's a special offer where you effectively get them for free when ordered together.

They did a great job at keeping it to the "Arduino UNO" layout and size, do you find it produces a lot of heat under effort though?

Nope. The Uno Q does not heat that much. And I do not think that there is a need for any kind of heat sink or fan. I have not run some computer vision model yet. But still I think it is very good in that case.

Yes that is impressive. Such a small PCB. I think they have inner layers as well but they have kept the low thickness. That is impressive.

Only the downside for now that I see is that some of the standard interfaces are missing compared to RPI. i.e. USB, MIPI, HDMI, etc.

But that is also fine. There will be soon some HaTs that can do that. !

    Hi Christopher  cstanton ,

I pre-ordered the Ventuno Q from Arduino in mid-August, and it arrived today.
    Visually, it’s a great-looking piece of kit.
Its size matches the Eurocard standard (160x100mm), with a height of 50mm including the supplied standoffs.

    Unboxing:
    All parts are well packaged.

    VentunoQ-Box

First impression: the PCB is neatly assembled, and the components are securely mounted.

    VentunoQ-top VentunoQ-bot VentunoQ-euro

    A small detail:
You can mount a standoff above the LED matrix, behind the "User" button.
You have to be careful here to orient the hex nut so that it doesn't push against adjacent components; otherwise, they could get torn off.

    VentunoQ-nut

    "Bughopper" module:
Behind this standoff, there is a pin header for the Bughopper, in case you need to debug the Ventuno Q.

    VentunoQ-debug

    Audio module:
Various modules can be attached to the underside; I bought the audio module. There is also currently a prototype board available for custom circuits.

    VentunoQ-aud

    VentunoQ-aud-plug

Plugin careful such modules. Such modules you cannot connect on/off many times.

    Power supply:
    Similar to the RPi 5, it’s a 65W USB-C wall adapter.

    VentunoQ-supply

Well then... That covers the unboxing.

Then, I also have RPi compatible cameras and 7" displays; so, I'll see how I can connect them to the Arduino Ventuno Q.

Now..., I'm as excited as a guitar string to see what "melodies" the Arduino Ventuno Q will play.

I would be very happy to post my experiences with the Ventuno Q (I also have the Uno Q) here, or in a dedicated forum.

    Arduino App Lab

    Best Regards

    Gerald
