I would start with the basics

BLINK an LED, Without the delay() function image

Set the millis() onto the LCD display

Read the potentiometer and send the value over the serial port

Now with a few basics. combine the read potentiometer and display to the LCD into one sketch to read the pot and show the ADC value on the LCD

    drive the stepper motor

use the pot to drive the stepper speed and direction

drive the stepper with the pot and also display current speed and direction on the LCD

basically, take the simple stand alone examples and then build upon them as you learn how each one works

once you have a few basics figured out, you can get to the slightly more complex tutorials I have produced here :- Fast Track to Arduino Programming
