Is there a sensor that can be used for detecting a dead human body?

Does the dead human body still emit infrared? Will sensors like omron d6t still work?

I think smell is the best current method (using cadaver dogs). It might be possible to design a sensitive smell detector using ion mobility spectroscopy, but it is a pretty big research project.

just to be OCD :-) corpses dont get cold, they get to room temperature, maybe a bit above by heat generated by decomposition. Zombies on the other hand do measure just a touch over room temperature since…

A heart rate monitor would probably tell you if you're dead.

https://userpages.uni-koblenz.de/~agas/Documents/Trierscheid2008HIF.pdf I saw these article while researching and will leave it here in case someone in the future would ask the same thing. From what I understood from reading it, it uses NIR camera and says that it can detect human skin even if it is buried with dust or even if the person is already cold and dead since it does not depend on temperature. Sounds really expensive though.

    Hi Ryan,

Texas Instruments used to carry a spectrometer in the NIR range for about 1000 USD, but I do not know if they still offer it.

I would doubt that you can do much with NIR unless you are reasonably close to the target.

The Spectral Angle Mapper algorithm is very processing intensive.

I use the algorithm for identifying different plant types, but you need a lot of good spectra to work well.
