Need some help with arduino counter project.

Hello Guys!

I am very new to this community and I will appreciate every help that I can get.
I want to make a little project that will help me a lot in my work. I will try to explain the system that I need as much as possible.

The main task is that I have 5 sensors installed successively , that will count every object that passes in front of them and at the end I can monitor/read the quantities that are passed in front of every sensor and also calculate the difference between exact quantities
I want to monitor the differences like below:

S1-S2 %
S2-S3 %

S4-S3 %
S5-S4 %

I didn't decide how to read the values - from connection to PC or from some Display. I'm opened for suggestions.

I'm currently looking for similar projects so I can start from somewhere. I will be very grateful for hardware and coding support and suggestions from you.

Best Regards!

Hello mustanov I work on common platforms (Arduino, Teensy, Raspberry Pi), with the information given I can give you few simple ideas around those platforms, but is always good to provide more details…

    Hello Luis,

Thank you for your guidance! I have Arduino Uno and I think for my task I will try to use IR Sensors. The object that I need to count are glasses, I will look for some coding now and will appreciate if you have some suggestions for it.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello mustanov,

My best suggestion for you is to head to a Pololu QTR reflectance sensor (resouces section), and check how to use their Arduino library. Basically they use two nice ways of using a IR sensor (and the circuits are a bit different):

    • Analog: the reflectance measurement is output as an analog voltage.
    • Digital: the reflectance measurement is output as a digital voltage (for this one you basically use an arduino pin as an output to charge a capacitor, then use the same pin as input to measure how long does it take to discharge).

I usually pick Analog, is just simpler to code IMO; I just define an Analog threshold to get rid of false alarms.

Or you can just google IR sensor Arduino and take it from there.

    Luis
