New Arduino Boards Look Interesting

Looks like Arduino have brought out two new boards, the Uno WiFi Rev2 and the MKR Vidor 4000 (an FPGA/SAM D21 microcontroller).

Both look really interesting.

Time to do some more reading.....and more importantly find where I can get hold of one.

Yes, the FPGA is also my preferred 'first buy' out of these two. Regarding the SAMD21 the Microchip spec states that this as: "A low-power, high-performance Microchip's ARM Cortex -M0+ based flash microcontroller…

I believe the intent was to keep the UNO as an ATmega 8-bit based board since they have the Zero with the SAMD21 chip; given they intend to keep the Zero in production. The ATmega4809 in the new UNO does…

Interesting : ) Especially that smaller board. The larger one, I wish they'd gone for a Cortex-M though : ) Still, looks useful.

The  ATmega4809 in the new UNO does have  Configurable Custom Logic (CCL) which makes a bit more customizable:

There is a Yun 2 that is listed as Coming Soon as well with a EAD of April 23rd. 2019 perhaps?.

Adafruit has the Metro M4 Express that is the same footprint as the UNO but with a SAMD21 which looks interesting.

    Hi Jon,

Those CCL (same as Configurable Logic Cell on the Microchip range) are really useful for doing a small amount of fast logic rather than having the MCU tied up or having to employ another IC. There is a good Microchip application note for using the logic to drive WS2812/Neopixel chains.
