New to FPGA

Hi
I'm new to FPGA and I'm trying to learn using the Zedboard. I couldn't find enough information for beginners for Zedboard. How do you recommend I should approach this?

My first goal is to build a FIR filter which is based on the audio codec.

Please help.

eight years ago i was an embedded software engineer when at ESC i was converted to FPGA design by guys like Bob Zeidman and Dave Pellerin. i headed back to grad school to get a proper education about digital design, although i was really focused on FPGA for embedded SOC. If you already know digital design get yourself Max Maxfields, "The Design Warrier's Guide to FPGAs."
To start I would say, read all the documentation on Zynq, the board and on the Xilinx tools. When you get tired try the speedway tutorial on this site.
For your FIR, first realize that the Zynq is not your run of the mill FPGA, but a complex FPGA SOC with the ARM hard cores. Look at Zynq Geek's tutorial (or better yet ug683, edk_ctt) on how to create a custom peripoheral. Your filter implemented in FPGA fabric is accessed thru software running on one of the ARMs.
Godd luck and bear up, from those of us who believe that Zynq is the future, it has been slow going in this economy. Many of us who have made the commitment just hope we don't starve before this thing takes off in earnest.

I'm working on implementing a full experiment set for our university lab. We decided to use Simulink as it's the most simple solution for student who are not familiar with FPGA.
I saw that in Atlys it is possible to use the audio codec in Simulink. Is there such an option for Zedboard?

sorry but i have not done a simulink app for zedboard.
matlab was present at the x-fest zedboard kick-off; try contacting the right parties over at matlab. hopefully they would be courteous to a university effort.

Sorry I'm late in replying to this thread, but yes, it is possible to target MATLAB code and Simulink models to the ZedBoard. Check out http://www.mathworks.com/zynq for more information.
