FMC reference design ?

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Does anyone know of a general reference design for a vita57 fmc card for eagle cad?

Having one available here would be great.

Found a design for a fmc  card using sata connectors(not proper sata) here
http://danstrother.com/2010/12/04/fmc-lpc-to-sata-adapter-board/

Thanks

Alex

I'm not aware of any FMC hardware designed in Eagle CAD.  Avnet uses Altium for our FMCs.  For a full list of FMC hardware that is out there, you can go to the following links:

    www.vita.com/fmc
    www.xilinx.com/fmc
    www.em.avnet.com/fmc

We will be working on a few specific FMC designs for ZedBoard.  More to come over the coming months.

This brings up a great point Alex.  Since the Zedboard is meant for hobbyists, educators and students, and those who many be just starting out in the world of programmable logic, an Eagle Cad library would be a great addition.

I found this when I was searching FMC brakeout boards
    http://www.ohwr.org/projects/lpcfmc12pexp/wiki

I was looking for FMC - FX2 adapters.
Digilent have good amount of different kinds boards to FX2 connector.

Its not just hobbiests using eagle.

At work some departments use Altium, others use Eagle. Its a cost thing.

Eagle is also the only cross platform cad.
Its the main option if you need cad for linux and mac.

Would be nice if xilinx supported macs like microchip has done (latest mplabx is available on linux , mac and windows).

For most embedded systems these days you don't need windows for development and its easier and less problems to use linux with tools like git, svn , eclipse .

I certainly agree that it is not only hobbyiests and students using Eagle Cad - however with the Zed board being targeted to that group of engineers/enthusiasts, it would make sense to have a library to pull from.  The initiative to start this library has already started, and hopefully will be finished soon! (note: not supported by Avnet, Digilent, or Xilinx).

As for the Mac developers environment for the Xilinx tools: You can always run a VM and run Linux on Mac OS - it is very simple.  As for a roadmap for native support, I will have to look into that.
