iic Device Id

Hello friends,

                       i'm working on iicps examples for establishing i2c communication between a zedboard and a sensor(i2c based). In the examples for iic there is a macro IIC_DEVICE_ID. and in the main there is a comment,

/*
* Run the Iic Slave Monitor example, specify the Device ID that is
* generated in xparameters.h.

*/

what is this Device ID macro ??

    Hi 473srikanth,

    I assume you are talking about this file here correct?

    XilinxSDK2016.2dataembeddedswXilinxProcessorIPLibdriversiicps_v3_2examplesxiicps_slave_monitor_example.c

    I don't see IIC_DEVICE_ID referenced anywhere in that file, where are you seeing that?

    I do see the device ID defined for the interrupt controller on line 68:

    #define INTC_DEVICE_IDtXPAR_SCUGIC_SINGLE_DEVICE_ID

    Have you checked through xparameters.h of your BSP to see if that contains the define ID definition you are looking for?

    Hi Kevin Sir,

    i'm working on SDK 2015.4.

    This is the path  /Xilinx/SDK/2015.4/data/embeddedsw/XilinxProcessorIPLib/drivers/iicps_v3_0/examples/xiicps_slave_monitor_example.c

    in the example, i found the macro     #define IIC_DEVICE_ID XPAR_XIICPS_0_DEVICE_ID             and in the xparameters.h  i found these macros             #define XPAR_XIICPS_0_DEVICE_ID XPAR_PS7_I2C_0_DEVICE_ID  and    #define XPAR_PS7_I2C_0_DEVICE_ID 0.

    what actually do they mean ??

    i'm using iic(ps section) and generated the bit file.

    Hello 473srikanth,

    As you have found the instance or 'device id' of the IIC device you are using is defined in the xparameters.h file that was generated as part of your BSP to match your hardware configuration. This device ID is passed to the example code you reference above which, in turn, calls code defined in the xiicps.h file that is in the 'src' directory of the iicps_v3 drivers. Here is a snippet of the coments in the xiicps.h code regarding use of the DeviceID:

    * The XIicPs_Config structure is used by the driver to configure itself. This
    * configuration structure is typically created by the tool-chain based on HW
    * build properties.
    *
    * To support multiple runtime loading and initialization strategies employed by
    * various operating systems, the driver instance can be initialized in the
    * following way:
    *
    *    - XIicPs_LookupConfig(DeviceId) - Use the device identifier to find
    *      the static configuration structure defined in xiicps_g.c. This is
    *      setup by the tools. For some operating systems the config structure
    *      will be initialized by the software and this call is not needed.
     
    You can follow the declaration through the calls in the example code for more details.
