When reading UART0, strange singals will keep sending into it

Hello everyone,

I have encountered a strange problem on the UART. When I am reading UART0 from linux using "cat /dev/ttyPS1" or a test app, strange singals will keep sending into the RX port of the UART, why??

Details:

I am using picozed 7015 with petalinux 16.2. UART1 is binding with the console which is functional. UART0 is binding to a GPS module through EMIO. RX and TX of UART0 are pulled up using vivado user constrain.

Using "cat /dev/ttyPS1", I can get continuous messages :

"$GNTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*46

$GNTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*46"
Suggesting that input cmd is wrong.
Then I use a multimeter to check the RX port when the "cat /dev/ttyPS1" is running, and the voltage of RX port is continuously change.
If I only send something to the RX port of UART1, the GPS module can recv my cmd.

Am I missing something ? I have googled but got nothing.. Thanks..

    Hi Josh,

    Thanks for your reply!  Problem is solved by trying the solutions in the post.

    It seems that the tty device will echo input characters in default. This can be un-configured by

    "struct termios options;

    options.c_lflag  &= ~ECHO

    ..."

    How stupid I am to neglect this simple configuration.
