Baud Rate Xillinux

Is baud rate hardware dependant for connecting to the UART or will it need to be changed now that I've started using Xillinux instead of the default installation of linux?  I am only getting gibberish in the terminal when I try to connect with the 115200 baud rate and 10, 100 delay times for the serial connection. Is the baud rate different now?  I can't find any documentation on connecting with the UART to Xillinux, it just says it's only used rarely.  Thanks!!

    Hi,

The setting for the UART is the same for Xillinux and the out-of-box Linux package that comes with the board on the SD card. If you saw proper output previously on the UART, it should work with Xillinux as well.

The Linux boot messages are however displayed on the VGA screen, so only some initial output (U-boot messages etc.) is expected on the UART until a shell prompt appears.

The question is if Linux booted properly. Do you see a shell prompt on the VGA output? It should be there, even if nothing is connected to the USB jack.

    Regards,
       Eli

For some reason it didn't work for a bit with the same settings then I restarted the terminal completely instead of just disconnecting and reconnecting and it worked perfectly.  Still works well now.  Thanks!

That's a common situation when turning the board off and on with the terminal application running. The USB interface vanishes, and then a new one is generated when the board goes on again. The terminal remains connected to a stale UART of USB instance. So nothing happens.
