ZedBoard MAC Address

Hi,

Where can I find the MAC address of my ZedBoard? I need the MAC address so that I can store it into my networks DHCP lookup table. Does a certain piece of code need to be running in order for the board to receive a MAC address? The board is right now connect to my network via an Ethernet cable.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

-Alex

    Hello Alex,

The MAC address is defined within the kernel device tree on PetaLinux systems.  This means, once you define it once for one board, it is the same for every other board that you load that PetaLinux build onto.

Here is the Xilinx official response for customers looking to assign MAC address across their boards:

    https://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/53476.html

Xilinx is working on a way to pull the MAC ID from an I2C EEPROM (like PicoZed and UltraZed carriers) so adding a MAC ID EEPROM will be supported option at some point in the future.  This is economically the best way to go for customers manufacturing under 10,000 pieces at a time.

Under Linux your current MAC ID will be defined under HWaddr.

    Hi Josh,

Thank you for the responses and great information. It now makes sense to why I couldn't see the MAC address. I will download PetaLinux and follow the provided instructions.

    Thanks again,
