UltraZed EG Starter Kit (AES-ZU3EG-1-SK-G) is not working as expected

henry_at_neways

I got an UltraZed EG Starter Kit (AES-ZU3EG-1-SK-G) and followed the instructions steps described inside ultrazed_eg_starter_kit_getting_started_guide_v1_1.pdf (http://zedboard.org/sites/default/files/documentations/ultrazed_eg_starter_kit_getting_started_guide_v1_1.pdf) to run the run the Out of Box Demo, but it is not working. When I switch on the board the fan is accelerating, the green “VIN HDR” LED on UltraZed IO Carrier Card is on and shortly the red “RST_N” LED is going on and immediately going off.

The COM ports are listed on the windows host PC and I configured it as described inside the getting started guide, but also nothing is shown on the terminal.

I tried it also with an petalinux on the SD card (UltraZed-EG SOM SW2 Boot Mode switch (MODE[3:0] = SW2[4:1]) to ON, OFF, ON, and OFF positions (Boot Mode set to SD Card, MODE[3:0] = 0x5)), but this also does not works.

Can anybody please help me to find out, what the problem is with the board?

    Hi Henry,

The first thing I would check is to verify the UltraZed-EG SOM is seated completely on to the I/O carrier card.  The SOM connectors are very stiff and can be hard to mate the SOM to the carrier.  Be sure to ground yourself first to avoid any ESD shock damage.

Also, are you using the power supply that came with the kit?  The power plug in your photo does not look like the power supply I have for my UltraZed-EG + I/O Carrier.

    Hi Tom,

I cannot beliefe it, I was to careful to get the SOM connected. Additionally the screws are to long, that means, that the screws are get connected to each other inside the spacer, but the board is then not fixed. I can see a space between screw and the SOM:

I am using the original power supply that came with the kit and I am using an ESD mat:

Now the system is running and the terminal is working, but not as described with the Enhanced COM Port, but with the Standard COM Port instead.

I have to say many many thanks for your help 2260.contentimage_3.png .

    Henry

    Hi there,

Glad you got it working.  I'll bring this information to the production folks.  These parts were originally validated, it seems that there could be an issue with the current parts (the parts have changed over the years).  Also, based on the drivers changing, that is probably the mismatch of the naming for the driver.

    Thank you for the feedback!
