Sealed jumpers MiniZed

Question

Hi All, I have just unboxed my brand new MiniZed board and followed the document "MiniZed Getting Started Guide". I noticed that the switch S1 boot mode looks like it's sealed with flux, please have a look at the attached photo. Is there a simple fix or should I return the board as defective? Thanks in advanced! It's a bit of tape which you can easily peel off once you get your fingernail under there. I'm guessing it's to help the pickup tool when placing the components on the board during assembly.

Hi there, Correct, it is a bit of tape. The switches come that way from the supplier in order to aid in manufacture. The tape keeps all the manufacturing goodies and chemical wash out of the switch. Think of it more like the protective cover that comes on your phone or most any other electronics device. That's about the same idea - although for a slightly different reason. As a side note...I have had to try to troubleshoot a board that had a loose BGA ball rolling around during manufacture. A good reason for 2D and 3D Xray at your CM. It is NOT fun! I can only imagine if one got into the switch somehow. Although not perfect, it is a really good step to help reduce manufacturing defects. Personally, I just poke through the tape and do not even take it off. I think of all my boards, I have only taken the tape off of 1-2 (out of the maybe 20-30 that I have or have had the pleasure of using). Usually I just set the jumpers/switches once and go about my business. Regardless, you got it, take it off, poke through it, etc. You are all good! --Dan
