Question Regarding MicroZED

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi,
I looked at MicroZED and it looks like a very nice piece of hardware for beginners.

Well, But, I have a question regarding this board.

What is the programming interface of this board? Is it PC4?

In ZEDBoard, or ZC-702 or ... the interface is USB, thanks to the Digilent USB JTAG interface.

Now, for MicroZED, PC4????
Do you mean one needs a computer with Parallel port to program the board? Isn't that a little bit silly?

Sure. This is documented in the Zynq TRM. The PL JTAG can be configured to be cascaded with the PS JTAG through a MODE jumper setting. This is the default for the board. In Cascaded JTAG, you can talk to both the PL and the PS.

You can also configure the MODE jumper for Independent JTAG, which separates the two. Then you can access the PS JTAG by reconfiguring your ARM PS MIO to expose the PS JTAG pins on the PS Pmod on ZedBoard. It is not common to do this, but it is useful in some situations, like if you wanted to do some more advanced things with tools from ARM.
