Microzed vision carrier card camera extender

Hi

I have purchased a PCIE camera extender cable from SAMTEC for the Microzed Embedded Vision Carrier card.  I'm trying to extend the Python 1300C camera module.  The SAMTEC part number is PCIEC-064-0100-EC-EM-P-85.  064 = x4 lane width,  0100 = 100 mm length,  EC-EM=two connectors, P=Eye speed cable and power lines, 85=85 Ohm impedance.  When I try to use the extender cable I can here a click from the card and the power light to the carrier card goes out.  No other lights come on from the attached Microzed card or the carrier card.  The click sounds like a relay and is very faint.  The hardware design guide for the carrier card says an extender card should work.  The only options for the cable that I was not sure about were the cable option.  My choices were:

P  (which I picked), eye speed with power

  C   eye speed Copper

CP eye speed copper with power.

I have two cables and they both exhibit same symptoms.  Has anyone successfully exentended the Python Camera module on this carrier card?

    Hello kcox,

After verifying the pin out on the Embedded vision carrier card and comparing it to the PCIe standard, it is found to not be compatible. I am sorry for the misinformation, we will work to get this corrected in the Hardware User guide as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    Regards,

    Joshua

Thanks Joshua.  We've purchased 10 of these boards and are relying on this working for our application.

We are getting ready to do the same thing with the Samtec cable and the Python 1300 camera module. What is the outcome of this issue? This is very important for our product development.

    Thanks

    Hello Dan,

The Samtec cable and the Python 1300 camera module are not compatible. The pinout on the Python 1300 camera module does not follow the standard PCIe pinout. If you still wish to use the module, most likely a custom cable would need to be developed. Are you currently talking to your local Avnet FAE?

I exchanged e-mail with someone this morning at Avnet, but not sure he is the local FAE. What's the best way to find out who this is and contact them?

What's your experience with extension cables - shielded or unsheilded? Flat or round?
